How proration works

Changing plans partway through a billing period is typically adjusted rather than charged in full again.

Changing plans partway through a billing period is typically adjusted for the time remaining, rather than charged as a completely fresh amount.

The general idea

If you upgrade partway through a period, you would typically expect to pay for the difference for the remaining time, rather than the full new plan price on top of what you already paid. If you downgrade, the difference is typically credited or reflected in a future invoice.

What it does not do

Proration does not mean you are charged twice for the same period. It also does not reset your existing billing date; your renewal date generally stays the same across a plan change.
