Briefing length and why it varies
The briefing runs however long the week's material deserves, so a short one on a quiet week is normal, not broken.
The briefing runs however long the week's material actually deserves.
What drives the length
Length is driven by the same significance judgement behind The Read, plus the size of your workspace: more tracked competitors mean more surface area for something worth mentioning. A quiet week for your competitors produces a short briefing, and that is a true, useful statement rather than something going wrong.
What it does not do
The briefing does not pad itself out to hit a target length on a quiet week. Doing so would train you to half-listen, which defeats the point of an audio-first channel built to be trusted at a glance.
