Search Console and GA4: what each contributes

Search Console contributes search visibility data; Google Analytics 4 contributes traffic and behaviour data.

Search Console and Google Analytics 4 contribute different, complementary parts of your own data to the Traffic view.

Search Console

Search Console contributes search visibility data, such as how your site appears in search results. See Connect Google Search Console.

Google Analytics 4

Google Analytics 4 contributes traffic and behaviour data, such as how visitors reach and use your site once they arrive. See Connect Google Analytics 4.

Using both together

Connecting both gives a fuller picture than either alone, since one covers visibility before a visit and the other covers what happens after. Neither is required to use the Traffic view, but your own data only appears once connected.

What it does not do

Connecting Search Console or Google Analytics 4 does not add anything to your competitor data. Both integrations only contribute your own data, shown alongside your competitors' for comparison.

Connecting one does not automatically connect the other either. Each is set up separately, and you can use just one if you do not need both.
